The 2009 version seemed very similar to the excellent 2008, 2007,… 2000+ version of this software. Although TurboTax fills out your forms, please print a copy and check them (like the program suggests) before sending them to the government.

Review by admin, January 25, 2010

While it may seem an obvious thing to “check your return” before sending it to the IRS, the point is that if we knew what the return “should” look like we wouldn’t need the software to generate it; we’d use a simple fill in the blank set of forms and do it ourselves. The matter of “trust” is what people are concerned about. We want to “trust” the software will 100% accurately examine the entered data points, and create an IRS acceptable return that minimizes our tax obligation within the framework of our overly complex ever-changing tax codes. Without trust, I might as well just do it by hand as my “guess” at what I owe will be as accurate as TurboTax or any other tax preparation software. Right now, none of the products have earned my trust this year.

I am a longterm Turbotax user but the end is near. I received a “cannot install” error because my hd C partition was too full. Nevermind that my D partition is 95% vacant. TT customer service assures me that they cannot help me, as the product was designed only to install on the same Drive as Windows. They told me to reformat my pc!!!As a sanity check I reinstalled previous years’ editions and I was able to select another Partition. Folks: boycott arrogant campanies! Rememeber how GM and Chrysler stopped listening to their customers?

Bought and had it installed on my computer within one hour! Save time, money and the environment by electronic downloading. Of course if you have a dial-up connection, you should consider the amount of time this will take. But if you have a broadband connection, you should not have a problem with the download. I have been using TurboTax for years and this is the first time I downloaded the software online. I cannot rate the actual program because I have not received my year end information, but I trust it will be as easy as last year.

I use TurboTax from 1999 and always was greatly satisfied with a product

Review by admin, January 25, 2010

I bought the download of TurboTax 2009 about 2 weeks ago – didn’t have any problems with downloading the product. I’m using Windows XP. Though having to use a download installer was something new – and that always should raise a little concern – the entire downloading process worked without a hitch. From starting the download to executing the product, it took about 20 minutes with my cable connection. I removed the download installer after I was sure the product was working fine. No issues to complain about.

I have just donwloaded and installed Turbo Tax and it took me a total of 18 minutes. Everything was straightforward and I have no complaints. My computer runs Windows Vista.

I was hesitant about the purchase of this download of Turbo Tax Federal Free Edition. However, I did it anyway to save a few bucks and to get the program now. I did not have one bit of trouble with the download. Only took a few minutes! Very easy!

Review by admin, January 25, 2010

I just cut back to the economy internet with comcast, which makes downloads a lot slower. So I microvaved something for dinner, and went and found all of the stuff I would need for doing taxes. After that, it didn’t take much longer. Taxes are done on the first day I even thought about doing them. Now I’m wondering why I actually ordered the CD last year.

The good – we won the battle on print charges. The basic interface for selecting Income & Deduction categories remains unchanged from last year.

The bad – Nagging registration screen under the guise of Taxpayer Update Info. Why do I have to refuse this screen each & every time I start the program? Give me the ’stop nagging’ option.

Tax reviews are in a clumsier format than last years version. They eliminated the useful side-by-side comparison of current year to prior year numbers. Instead they used that prior year space to show you what you entered into the program & what they are accepting for your return, the difference & a click through to what the reason may be. Also useful but now if you want to see how your taxes compare to last year you will need to launch last years program/return to do so.

It’s Deductible – a great way to handle your non-cash deductions – must now be done on-line, using IE, and then imported into TT. Awkward – should be embedded in the TT program.

Review by admin, January 25, 2010

My original review was deleted. I am a CPA and was a loyal TT user since the days of Chipsoft. The latest changes are unbearable: high cost, return printing restrictions unless you want to pay more to print additional returns…etc. etc. I switched to Tax Cut and it works fine. The cost is much lower, all the forms are there and you are not limited on returns you can print. Tax Cut with business capability comes with all the state forms also and cost 1/2 of TT. I’m glad I made the switch.

TurboTax, honey, you and I go way back — I think we hooked up back in the 80’s, didn’t we? You were just a kid then, simple, unsophisticated, but to me you were a fine piece of work and I fell for you, hard. And you’ve been doing nothing but getting better ever since. Can I ever forget all those nights we spent together, how you massaged my deductions, depreciated my assets, and played along with all my off-beat alternative tax games?

Review by admin, January 25, 2010

I was angry with all the new prices increases that Intuit was trying to push down its loyal customers throats, therefore when they offered a Federal Free Edition i went with that and do not regret!

Review by admin, January 25, 2010

I’ve been using TurboTax forever, just as Quicken is the only financial program I’ve ever used.

I have been a loyal user of Turbo Tax for over 10 years.

Review by admin, January 25, 2010

I have used TurboTax to prepare my taxes every year since 1994. And the last three years, in particular, I have watched the program slide continually downhill. To be sure, it is still a competent tax preparation program, and the EasyStep Interview process continues to work well, but all of the program’s personality and nice little extra touches are gone. The annual disk used to include great reference works on tax law — no longer there (the online “Media Center” has nothing in it but the standard IRS Publications, which are also available online frome the IRS). The program used to start with a welcome video highlighting changes for the new tax years, and included a series of videos explaining tax topics and concepts by tax experts — all gone. I used to feel like I was interacting with the program — now I’m just using it.

The cross-selling and promotion of extra services, and other versions of the software you’ve just bought, has also become ridiculous.

I like your Turbo Tax product, and I want to use it.

Review by admin, January 25, 2010

All I can do at this point is add my voice to the chorus. What really did it for me was the elimination of Schedule C on Deluxe edition. What is “deluxe” about it? I’ve experienced the poor decisions of this company while upgrading Quicken, but this is the last straw. Does anyone know if TaxCut will import information from previous forms made in TurboTax? After a decade-plus using TT, I’m ready to switch!

I’m a CA CPA who worked for a Big 4 Accounting firm. I now work in Corporate Finance at a High Tech company. I’ve been using TurboTax for about 10 years for my personal filings. The software is good.
